Sterling Silver Jewellery Care
About Sterling Silver
Love Story sterling silver is sourced from Australia, this way we are not only supporting Australia but also ensuring the sterling silver is genuine 925 (92.5%).
Sterling Silver, chosen for its strength and beauty, will last a lifetime and is 92.5% silver with the other metal generally being copper. Pure silver is very soft, making it not viable for everyday use. However, when copper is added, it becomes a harder, more durable metal.
Understanding Tarnishing
What causes it? Gasses in the air react with the silver.
What does it look like? Discoloring that almost looks like fading or a dull copper appearance.
How to Clean Sterling Silver
1 Jewellery Cloth Method (Recommended)
Simply rub the piece with a jewellery cloth. Use gentle pressure—not quite as hard as you would with stainless steel. This is the safest method for all sterling silver pieces.
2 Gentle Cleaning Dip Method
Create your own jewellery cleaning solution:
- Mix approximately 250ml of warm water with a teaspoon of mild dishwashing liquid
- Place your piece into the mixture
- Gently clean all areas with a soft-headed toothbrush (to avoid scratches)
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Pat dry with a soft hand towel
Important: If your sterling silver piece is stone-set, use the jewellery cloth method instead, as some stones cannot be soaked or exposed to dishwashing liquid.
Stainless Steel Jewellery Care
Why We Love Stainless Steel
Our hypoallergenic and non-tarnishing surgical stainless steel is a sturdy, allergy-free, waterproof metal that is corrosion-free and incredibly durable, making our jewellery perfect for everyday wear.
This includes our colored surgical stainless steel pieces in silver, rose gold, gold, and black that are often used in our photo engraving. Its hard-wearing, easy-to-clean nature and affordability make perfect sense for everyday use.
Waterproof & Durable
Safe to wear in the shower
Safe to wear in swimming pools
We suggest not wearing in the ocean due to sea salt

Rub the jewellery piece with a jewellery cloth (included with your purchase). Don’t be afraid to use some strength—our surgical stainless steel is a durable metal.
Don’t panic! You may see the cloth turn black in parts—this is completely normal.
2 Deep Cleaning Dip Method
For a deeper clean, create your own jewellery cleaning solution:
- Mix approximately 250ml of warm water with a teaspoon of mild dishwashing liquid
- Place your piece into the mixture
- Gently clean all areas with a soft-headed toothbrush (to avoid scratches)
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Pat dry with a soft hand towel
Your jewellery should now sparkle like new!
